About Mrs. Fisher

First things first, if you need to contact me click here.  This link will direct you to my e-mail address.

If you have discovered this page, then you want to know a little bit about me.  I'm going to tell you more than you want to know. If you are one of my English students, you will find that most of your writing territories revolve around YOU. You are the expert on yourself...and that is often a familiar territory. That being said, welcome to my territory. I am going to take you on a journey to get to know me by combing words and pictures.

If you are in my class, regardless of the content area, you will hear.... "When you go to college" or "You will need this when you go to college." So I want to start at COLLEGE.

I am a proud graduate of the University of California, San Diego (which by the way US News and World Report Ranked 7th best public school).  I graduated in 2006 with two bachelors degrees: English and History.  My formal minor was Judaic Studies; however, I took enough course work with the emphasis on Ethnic Literature in America.  I ended up completing two senior projects: one on war and American Society and another on Religion in the Dark Ages.  As you can see, academically I was all over the place and took WHATEVER I could.  I even graduated early!  My least favorite class in college was Science Fiction.  Shhh...don't tell Mr. Curry.  I studied Hebrew.  If you are really interested, I have some WONDERFUL stories for you about that experience.

Not only was I busy with my studies, but you could find me "walking with a purpose" around campus.  I was the girl who smiled at random strangers and virtually knew everyone, turning those strangers into friends.  My involvement included:  Resident Advisor (we called them House Advisors), Orientation Leader, Senior Orientation Leader, Peer Academic Counselor, Muir College Academic Advising Intern, Muir College Residence Council Member, Housing and Dining Advisory Member (Click here to see the new transfer housing that I helped launch at UCSD.  The director of housing and dining called it "my legacy".), Muiron-4-Christ President, Girls' Coordinator, and Bible Study Leader, AVID College Tutor.  I also held down a number of jobs including a summer camp counselor, medical assistant, and copy girl at the University copy shop- Imprints.

FAMILY

I am the most blessed person alive.  I married my college sweetheart.  He is currently studying law at the University of Oregon (yes, I commute.  We are dedicated to preserving study hours.  See kiddos- do your homework).  We have a recent addition to our family- our little puppy Dungaden.  My parents are my inspiration and my sister is my best friend.

TEACHING

This year marks my 4th year of teaching.  It has gone by way too fast.  I taught in San Diego, CA for a year in a temporary position.  My first formal teaching assignment was in Orange County, CA.  There I was a Link Crew Advisor, Girl's League Consultant, AVID Elective Teacher, AVID Club Advisor, and of course, an English teacher.  I completed my formal teacher training from San Diego State University.  Life takes people to many different places in their life.  I am happy my life has lead me here.  While you see I am completely a Cali girl (please do not hold it against me), I promise to bring the best of Cali and try to match it with the best in Oregon. :)  On a side note, I did live in North Bend, OR for three years. :)

WHAT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST THIS YEAR...

EVERYTHING! Please come to Pep Assemblies, do your homework, and get ready to have an AMAZING year!
